Bathroom Floating Shelves Glass

Benefits of Glass Floating Shelves

Below I list several of the benefits I’ve experienced using glass floating shelves in my bathroom:

  • Sleek, modern look. The transparent glass has a light, airy feel that looks contemporary and stylish. Floating installation adds to the modern aesthetic.
  • Versatile storage. I use my glass shelves for folded towels, toiletries, decorative items, and more. The open shelves provide easy access.
  • Easy to clean. The smooth glass surface just needs a quick wipe down. No dust or grime gets trapped.
  • Illuminate spaces. The glass shelves reflect light beautifully in the bathroom. They seem to brighten up the whole space.
  • Customizable. I was able to choose shelves of different lengths and mount them at varying heights for a custom look.
  • Quick installation. The floating mounting brackets allow me to hang the glass shelves in minutes with no drilling or damage.
  • Affordable option. Glass shelves cost less than wood or metal designs. I was able to get the modern look on a budget.
  • Durable material. Tempered glass is very strong. I don’t have to worry about water damage or rusting like with wood shelves.
  • Lightweight. The glass doesn’t put a lot of strain on my wall. I don’t have to find studs to support the weight.

Choosing the Right Size Glass Shelf

Do you want to know how I chose the perfect size of glass floating shelves for my bathroom? Here they are:

  • Measured available wall space. I checked the area I wanted to place the shelves and mapped out the dimensions. This gave me a size range to shop within.
  • Considered my storage needs. I thought about what I wanted to store on the shelves. More towels or decorative items? This helped guide the lengths I looked for.
  • Accounted for existing fixtures. I made sure to measure around things like lights, mirrors, and outlets so the shelves would fit nicely around them.
  • Compared options in-store. I looked at 12”, 16”, 24”, and 30” shelves. The 24” size seemed ideal for storing folded towels beside the vanity.
  • Imagined scale and proportion. I held up a few sizes to visualize how they’d look and feel in the bathroom. 16” shelves looked too small and overwhelmed the space.
  • Checked weight capacities. I made sure to choose a shelf that could safely hold the items without sagging or falling.
  • Read reviews for insight. Customer reviews mentioning sagging shelves helped me determine which depths and brackets were sturdiest.
  • Ordered two matching shelves. Getting two 24” shelves provided balance on both sides of my mirror and visual consistency.

Installing and Mounting Glass Floating Shelves

Installing the glass floating shelves I picked out for my bathroom was a quick and easy process. I was able to get them up on the wall in less than an hour using the floating shelf brackets.

The first step was determining the exact mounting location. I measured and leveled to mark the height I wanted on the shelves. Getting this right the first time ensured they would be even.

I then drilled pilot holes in the drywall at the bracket locations. The included wall anchors went into the pilot holes to reinforce them. This provided a sturdy base for the shelf brackets.

Next, I screwed the metal floating shelf brackets into the wall anchors. I made sure not to overtighten. There was a bit of play left in the brackets to allow for leveling the glass.

With the brackets securely mounted, I carefully placed the tempered glass shelves into the ledges of the brackets. I used a level to double-check they were even and adjusted as needed.

The last step was to install the provided support pins into the back of the shelves. These pins slot into place in the bracket ledges as a safety precaution. This keeps the glass firmly stabilized.

In less than an hour, I had two beautiful glass floating shelves professionally installed in my bathroom. The brackets made the whole process straightforward and fast. I didn’t have to deal with power tools or complex mounting. I’m thrilled with how stylish, yet functional the shelves look!

Styling and Decorating Glass Bathroom Shelves

One of my favorite parts about installing the new glass floating shelves in my bathroom was deciding how to style and decorate them. I had fun putting together some functional and decorative displays.

For everyday use, I folded towels neatly and arranged them on one shelf. I used classic white towels to keep it looking clean. The transparency of the glass shows off the colors underneath beautifully.

On the shelf above, I displayed some of my favorite decorative bath items. I have a ceramic tray holding soaps, candles, and small plants. The items can be changed out seasonally for a fresh look.

I made sure to incorporate some greenery. The glass shelves are perfect for holding small potted succulents or air plants. I also have a slim vase of faux eucalyptus stems that adds texture.

One tip I have is to use bookends or corral trays to keep items in place. Because the shelves are open, this prevents things from shifting around or falling off.

I switched out the standard hardware for crystal knobs to dress up the basic brackets. This little detail really makes the shelves shine.

With the right mix of practical storage and decorative displays, my glass floating shelves make a stylish statement in my bathroom. I love showcasing some of my favorite things while keeping the look uncluttered. The transparency of the glass lets everything sparkle.
