When it comes to bathroom faucets, the single-lever design offers a host of advantages. Here are the top reasons why I prefer single lever faucets:
Ease of Use: The single lever faucet’s one-handle design makes it incredibly easy to operate. Whether you’re adjusting the water temperature or controlling the flow volume, a single lever handles it all.
Intuitive Temperature Control: Inside a single lever faucet, there’s an internal cartridge that effectively blends hot and cold water. When you turn the handle to the left, it increases the cold water proportion, while turning it to the right increases the hot water mix. This intuitive control allows you to find your preferred water temperature without any hassle.
Effortless Water Pressure Adjustment: Single lever faucets provide complete control over water pressure and flow. Push the handle forward, and you’ll enjoy full pressure and maximum flow. Pull it back to reduce the flow, ideal for tasks like handwashing. This convenience outshines traditional faucets with separate hot and cold knobs.
Flexible Spout Options: Many single-lever faucets come with pull-down or pull-out spouts. These features offer enhanced flexibility for rinsing the sink or reaching all corners of the bathroom. When not in use, the spout neatly retracts, keeping your bathroom neat and tidy.
Popular Single Lever Faucet Brands
When shopping for a new single-lever faucet, I’m careful to stick with brands known for quality and performance. Over the years, I’ve had great experiences with Kohler, Delta, Moen, and Pfister faucets.
Kohler is my go-to for high-end bathroom faucets. I love the sleek and modern designs they offer. Kohler single lever faucets feature durable ceramic disc valves and sturdy brass construction. They are a bit pricier but worth it for the smooth operation and longevity.
For mid-range options, Delta is one of my favorite brands. Their Brilliance and Trinsic lines offer an excellent balance of style and function at reasonable prices. Delta’s Diamond Seal technology reduces leaks, and their InnoFlex hoses prevent kinking.
If I’m looking for something more affordable but still reliable, Moen usually fits the bill. I’ve installed various Moen single-lever faucets in bathrooms over the years without issue. Spot Resist finish helps them stay looking new. Easy to install Duralock quick connect system is also a nice feature.
Finally, for a budget-friendly single lever faucet, Pfister is my top choice. I’ve been impressed with their dependability and performance despite lower prices. Pfister offers a decent selection of classic lever faucet styles that look far more expensive than they are.
Installing a Single-Lever Faucet
When it came time to replace my old worn-out bathroom faucet, I decided to install a new single lever model myself. I was able to do it in one afternoon with some basic DIY skills.
The first step was turning off the water supply lines and removing the old faucet. I disconnected the drain pipes, supply lines, and mounting hardware underneath. With the old faucet out of the way, I cleared the sink deck and cleaned off any leftover plumber’s putty.
Before installing the new single lever faucet, I read the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. I made sure to have all the required tools and materials handy. Most importantly, I shut off the main water supply to avoid any leaks.
I applied plumber’s putty around the base of the new faucet to seal it to the sink. Using the mounting nuts and washers, I secured the faucet tightly into place. I reconnected the drain pipes and supply lines, being sure to tighten the connections with an adjustable wrench.
Once everything was hooked up properly, I turned the main water back on and tested for leaks. After confirming it was watertight, I ran the faucet for a few minutes to clear any debris. Finally, I applied some silicone sealant around the edges for an extra barrier against moisture.
In the end, I was proud to have successfully installed the sleek new single-lever faucet myself. The whole process was easier than expected. I’m excited to enjoy the convenience it brings to my daily bathroom routine.
Single Lever Faucet Maintenance
To keep my single-lever bathroom faucet performing its best, I make a habit of regular maintenance. Taking a little time for routine care helps prevent problems and keeps things running smoothly.
One of the most important tasks is periodically cleaning the faucet head. I remove the aerator and soak it in white vinegar to remove any mineral buildup that restricts water flow. For surface grime, I wipe the faucet down with a soft cloth soaked in warm water and mild soap.
Lubricating the faucet’s inner components is also key. I apply a small amount of non-petroleum faucet grease to the stem and cartridge valves every few months. This prevents sticking and keeps the handle and motion smooth.
If I notice any drips or leaks, I’m quick to replace worn parts like washers and O-rings. I keep common replacement parts on hand so I can fix minor leaks myself immediately. Catching them early prevents escalation into bigger, costlier issues.
For deep cleaning, I occasionally flush the faucet lines. I disconnect the supply lines and run hot water through them into a bucket to purge sediment and deposits. This maintains water flow and pressure.
With basic DIY skills and the right maintenance habits, I’m able to keep my single-lever faucet in optimal working order. A little preventative care goes a long way towards reliability and longevity.
